Paris Tips: What You Need to Know Before You Travel
Paris is an incredible city — everyone knows that. But having some information before your trip can help you avoid small hassles and make your experience even more special.
I have lived in Paris for 3 years and have accompanied many travelers through the city. Over time, I realized that some simple information makes all the difference in enjoying Paris with more peace of mind.
The first tip is about one of the biggest stereotypes about the French: the idea that they are grumpy. I will not say this stereotype came from nowhere, but the truth is that the experience often changes completely when you understand a little of French culture and respect some small everyday codes.
Always say "Bonjour" before any interaction
This is probably one of the most important tips for your trip. In France, greeting before asking for information, entering a shop, starting service at a restaurant, or speaking to someone is a matter of politeness and respect. French is the country's official language, and even if you do not speak French, starting a conversation with a simple "Bonjour" already shows goodwill and usually makes the interaction much more pleasant.
Always keep your metro ticket
This is a very important tip for those who will use public transport in Paris. Even after passing through the turnstile, keep your ticket until the end of your journey. If there is an inspection inside the metro and you cannot present a valid proof of travel, you may receive a fine of up to €50.

Tap water in restaurants is free and drinkable
A simple tip that helps save money during the trip: tap water in Paris is free in restaurants and safe to drink. If you do not want to order bottled mineral water, simply ask for a "carafe d'eau" (pitcher of tap water).
Pay attention to metro hours
If you plan to enjoy Parisian nightlife, it is important to organize yourself. The Paris metro does not run all night. On weekdays, some lines run until approximately 12:30 a.m., and on weekends and holiday eves, some lines may run a little later.
Take advantage of free museum days
Paris is an incredible city for culture lovers, and a tip many people do not know is that several museums offer free entry on certain days of the month. Most national museums offer free admission on the first Sunday of the month. The Louvre has a different rule: entry is free on the first Friday of each month after 6 p.m., except in July and August.

My final tip for enjoying Paris
Paris is a city that goes far beyond the Eiffel Tower and postcards. It is the details, stories, and little corners that make a trip unforgettable.
If you want to experience the city in a lighter way, without rushing and with someone who knows it closely, I would love to be part of your trip.
